She once shared that her mother was both a cook and the owner of a flower shop in their hometown. Burrell had one sibling, a sister named Jane Burrell-Uzcategui. Despite her culinary style, Burrell was not of Italian ethnicity.

Previously, Burrell was in a relationship with chef Koren Grieveson, which lasted about two years. Anne Burrell attended Canisius College in Buffalo where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English and Communications in 1991.  Later, Burrell joined the Culinary Institute of America where she earned an Associate in Occupational Studies (A.O.S) in 1996.

Anne Burrell was a chef and television personality. She appeared as a host in a number of cooking television shows including  Food Network’s Worst Cooks in America, Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, and Chef Wanted. Moreover, Burrell competed in season four of Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef, where she was eliminated in episode 6. She also competed in Chopped All-Stars Tournament season 1 and season 4. Burrell won season 4 of the Chopped All-Stars Tournament winning $75,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Besides, chef Burrell appeared on Best Thing I Ever Ate, Guy Fieri Roadshow, and the 2009 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on the Food Network float.

Additionally, Burrell worked as an instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education. She was also the owner of Phil & Anne’s Good Time Lounge, in Brooklyn, which was opened in spring 2017, and closed as of April 2018.
