He was 12 years old when The Battle of Manilla in 1945 happened. Born in Manila, Roderick lived through Japanese occupation for three years along with his parents and siblings Ian, Consuelo, and Alaistair. As the war turned against them, the Japanese became increasingly cruel and more violent. In the end, they seemed intent on bringing down everything and everyone with them. Fortunately, Roderick survived the war between the Japanese and Americans. Nine years later, Hall’s father moved to America with his father, who had survived, graduated from Stanford, and enrolled in the U.S. Army before serving in Korea. Hall’s father said he was saved by the American military, and he’s been grateful ever since. and made it out of the war.

Moreover, Hall has traveled to Syria and Iraq, repeatedly filing dispatches for BBC Radio and Agence France Presse, as well as the aforementioned publications — often from behind enemy lines and embedded with rebel and regime troops.

The vehicle he was struck by incoming fire from the Russians leaving him severely injured and his two colleagues; photojournalist Pierre Zakrzewski, 55, and consultant Oleksandra Kuvshynova, 24, dead. As per Fox News, Hall was hospitalized after being injured while “newsgathering” outside of Kyiv. He has been reporting for Fox News on the ground in Ukraine since February 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine.

Hall has since been evacuated from Ukraine. On March 16, 2022,  Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott in a memo to staffers said: “Ben is alert and in good spirits,”  “He is being treated with the best possible care in the world and we are in close contact with his wife and family. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.”
