Chef Kang started his cooking career in 2010 working as a line cook at Momofuku located in Greater New York City. He worked at Momofuku for two years before working as a line chef at Eleven Madison Park (2012- 2014). Additionally, Kang went back to work at Momofuku as a Sous Chef in 2016. He worked in that position until June 2019 when he began working in Momofuku as a Chef De Cuisine, a position he held until March 2020.

Kang was one of the cast members of Bravo TV’s Top Chef season 19. Season 19 of Top Chef comes to Houston where 15 “chefs will put their expert take on iconic regional dishes, while also being immersed in the ethnic diversity that has come to define Houston’s culinary identity. Top Chef: Houston premiered on March 3, 2022, on Bravo.
Chef Kang was eliminated in episode 3 of Top Chef Houston. The chefs were challenged “to create street food dishes inspired by Asian flavors to be served for 100 guests at an Asian night market. The contestants were randomly assigned cuisines for inspiration, which included Vietnamese, Indian, Chinese, Filipino, and Japanese. Despite sharing cuisines, the chefs competed individually. The winner received US$10,000. The guest judges were Top Chef: Miami winner Hung Huynh and chef Kiran Verma. Kang created “Samaloo” – Potato Curry with Pomegranate Chutney. The winner of the Top Chef Houston episode 3 challenge was Jae Kung who prepared Stir Fried Udon with Chinese Sausage, Korean Melon & Ramen Topping.
