Brit Hume Biography

Born Alexander Britton Hume, Brit Hume is a journalist and political commentator. He worked for ABC News for 23 years, contributing to Nightline, This Week, and World News Tonight Peter Jenning. From 1989 to 1996 he served as ABC News chief White House correspondent.  Hume also worked as a managing director for Fox News Channel before becoming their senior political analyst in 2008.

Hume began his professional career immediately after college. His career started on working for publications such as The Hartford Times and the Baltimore Evening Sun. He also worked for United Press International. In the early 70s, Hume worked for columnists Jack Anderson and Richard Pollack.

In 1973, Hume was hired by ABC News and had a 23-year career with ABC News, where he contributed to World News Tonight with Peter JenningsNightline, and This Week. From 1989 to 1996 he worked as ABC News chief White House correspondent.

Later, in 1997, Hume became a managing editor of the Fox News Channel and the anchor of Special Report with Brit Hume.  After retiring as the anchor of Special Report in 2008, he became a senior political analyst for Fox News and a regular panelist on Fox News Sunday. In September 2016, he was named the interim anchor of On the Record, after the abrupt resignation of the show’s longtime host, Greta Van Susteren, and served in that capacity through the 2016 election.
