Willie Spence was an American-born Singer and Songwriter from Georgia. He became widely known after posting music covers of famous musicians’ songs on his social media platforms. He rose to fame for competing on ABC’s reality singing competition show  American Idol,season19. Spence finished in second place on season 19 of American Idol.

Spence was born on June 18, 1999, in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA. He was 23 years old as of October 2022 when he met his death.  He celebrated his birthday on date 18 of June every year.

Spence was born to his parents; Sharon (mother) and Willie Spence Sr. (father). Sometimes in 2017, the American Idol, season 19 contestant,  posted a picture of his mother Sharon, on his Instagram page. The singer seems to have a close relationship with his mother. He revealed that he learned to sing from his mother as she is also a singer. Willie’s father is a chef.

Willie Spence Death and Cause of Death

Spence died in a car crash on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. He died after hitting the rear of a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 24 East near Chattanooga, according to news outlets, which cited a Tennessee Highway Patrol (source: ABC News). Spence was wearing a seatbelt. The tractor  trailer driver was not injured according to the crash report.

Spence studied at Coffee High School in Douglas, Georgia. After high school graduation, he joined Florida State University for his college education.

Spence was a contestant on ABC’s reality show, American Idol, season 19. The talented singer performed a rendition of Rihanna’s Diamond for his audition, and earned himself three nods from the judges; Luke Brayan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie, and a golden ticket to Hollywood Week. Willie was joined by Katherine McPhee to sing Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion’s Prayer, during the Duet stage of the singing competition. Spence dedicated the song to his late grandfather whereas McPhee dedicated the song to his late father.  After the duet performance, the judges had only amazing things to say to the Florida native.  He sang Adele’s Set Fire to the Rain which earned him a Top 12  qualification. During the Top 12 round, he sang Stand Up by Cynthia Erivo, which saw him move to the Top 9 stage of the competition.

Willie started singing when he was three years old. The amazingly talented singer grew up singing in his grandfather’s church in Florida. He released a six-song EP titled The Voice, on April 2, 2021. The songs on his The Voice EP are:
